It is the policy of Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) that student injuries and accidents regardless of the extent are reported to the Office of Risk Management immediately.
To protect the University from risk of liability in the event of a student injury or accident.
Student injuries and accidents must be reported to the Office of Risk Management within 24 hours of occurrence. If injured during a clinical rotation or during programmed school hours students are to report their injury promptly to their clinical supervisor or faculty.
Should medical attention be necessary it is at the discretion of the student where he or she receives treatment. Note: Western University Medical Center is a Family Practice facility and does not provide Emergency Room care. Students are to provide the treating facility with their personal health insurance information.
The University provides students with secondary coverage through the Student Accident Insurance Policy for medical expenses incurred as a direct result of the covered injury. The Student Accident Insurance is excess coverage, as such will be billed secondary after the student's primary insurance carrier has paid its responsibility.
It is the responsibility of the student to ensure his or her primary insurance carrier is billed first and to follow up should benefits be denied.
